If you want something bad enough you will make it happen if not you will make an excuse.  What excuses are you making for not having the fabulous life of your dreams?  What is holding you back?  Money? Fear? Time? Age? Afraid of Failing? No Talent or Skill? Place Excuse ____  Here?

History is replete with countless people who made their fortune or accomplished greatness by shear determination and persistence.

Oprah was demoted for not being fit for television, Einstein did not speak till he was 4 and his teachers said he would never amount to much, Walt Disney was fired from his news paper for “lacking original ideas” and for having “no imagination”, Michael Jordan went home and cried when he was kicked off the high school basketball team, Louise Hay was in her mid forties before she even got started and she didn’t even launch Hay House on a small scale untill her 50’s, Abraham Lincoln was committed for depression and lost countless elections before becoming President of the United States.

The list of comeback stories, stories of people who had nothing and made it to the top is too exhausting and exhaustive to mention.  If you’ve never failed then you’ve never tried anything new.  You have to persist and persevere to have your dream.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”

~ Calvin Coolidge

The indelible human spirit is amazing.  We challenge ourselves to do things often by choice, sometimes for survival but when we achieve the unachievable the experience is unbelievable.  Without the fear of falling we will never experience the thrill of soaring.  Sometimes you have to have a breakdown before you can have a breakthrough.

We have to learn to push past the fear and the victory on the other side is so sweet it is worth every ounce of pain if we will just hang on one more second.  We give in and give up too easily when are so close.

No excuses

I recently watched the movie Unbroken.  What an inspiring example of what the human spirit is capable of when they believe they can endure.  His brother told him “if you can take it you can make it” and those words kept him going.   There were so many times when he could have given up but he remembered those words and he held on.

“Many of life’s failures did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

~ Thomas Edison

“Triumph often is nearest when defeat seems inescapable.”

~ B.C. Forbes

We are capable of incredible things.  Everything that is now a reality was once a dream.  The airplane, the car, the computer, clothing, in door plumbing, everything we have and use and everything we are was once a dream.

“Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall unveil. The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.”

~ James Allen

If your dream is important to you you will find a way, if not, you will find an excuse.  Someone else in worse circumstances than you has made it happen.  Their are people who sacrifice and require more of themselves.

Maybe it will take 10 years or 20 years but when you get there you will have your dream.  The time will pass whether you go for it or not.  So what is it going to be?

Let your dreams be bigger than your fears and your actions louder than your words.  Go for it.  And don’t stop till you get there.

Remember those people at the top of the mountain didn’t fall there!

“There is no place where success comes before work except in the dictionary.”

~ Donald M. Kimball

My Challenge:  Think about something you have written off as impossible and start reconsidering.  Write a list of what it will take to make it happen.  Even if it will take a thousand steps and 20 years.  A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.  Break it down into steps and make a check list and do something each day towards your goal.
