“With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose.”
~ Wayne W. Dyer
If you want to change your life you need to make different choices, today is the best day to begin, why wait. We create our experience by the choices we make. Even our thoughts and emotions are choices. What are you focusing your attention on: what is going right or what is going wrong? That is a choice. What are you telling yourself about your experiences? How are you choosing to frame your circumstances? That is a choice. Those choices have consequences, they determine if you are happy, sad, angry or grateful.
Earlier today I was talking to a friend and I was, well let’s say, processing externally. I was sharing all the things I had to do and what I hadn’t done. She challenged me to reframe. I had one of those aha moments. I have a choice how I am going to frame my experience. When I choose to focus my mental and emotional energy on what I’m not doing instead of celebrating what I have accomplished, I am choosing to be in a state of disempowerment and discouragement. We create our emotional experience. Now I am claiming my victories and living in the present. My mood has changed dramatically.
What about you? How are you choosing to use the precious time we have been allotted? Are you focusing on your blessings or your challenges? Are you doing things with your time, making choices in the moment, that contribute to your happiness or focusing on what is not working and contributing to your misery?
Recently I read about a man who complained he had no shoes until he met someone who had no feet. It is all a matter of perspective. What is perspective if not what you choose to focus on, the lens you choose to view your world. So my challenge to you on this day of independence is to use your freedom to choose wisely. Pay attention to what you are telling yourself. If it is not serving you and adding quality to your life, then reframe, change the lens, choose to focus on the positive. You will create a different life.
Happy Independence Day!
