I Promise Me to Be the Best Me Today

I Promise Me to Be the Best Me Today

I Promise to Best Me Today

The other day I read the book, The Four Agreements written by, Don Miguel Ruiz.  They are four simple principles that you commit yourself to live by, freeing you from the tyranny of ego.  He doesn’t actually use the word ego but essentially anything that causes us to make choices from fear and not love, resides in the ego. As Dr. Wayne Dyer always says, ego is an acronym for Edging God Out.  We are created to be connected to God and to live a life of love.  If you follow these agreements you will live from love and not fear.

One of the four agreements that resonated with me is be impeccable with your word.  The agreements are a contract you make with yourself.  I am committed to being in integrity, saying what I mean, honoring my commitments and choosing my words carefully.  Words are powerful, they create our experience.

This particular agreement has historically been challenging for me, especially when it comes to keeping my word to myself.  My past, including yesterday, is replete with examples of me making promises to myself or making commitments and flaking. But I am not that person, I can make different choices today.  It may be a challenge to change but challenges are what make life interesting so I am going to do what I say I am going to do, even if it hurts.

Words have power so I am going to remember to think before I speak to make sure what I am saying is beneficial and coming from a place of love.  I have this picture on my wall it has the acronym THINK, it says:

Before you Speak THINK:

T-is it True?

H– is it Helpful?

I– is it Inspiring?

N– is it Necessary?

K– is it Kind?

I don’t have to act the way I used to, even if I messed up yesterday, today is a new chance to try again!  I don’t have to be a prisoner of the past, I can be a pioneer of the future and forge new ground.

So I am sharing this with you my fellow travelers.  I am committed to making this my strength.  Below is a summary of the four agreements, which one resonates with you?  What are you willing to commit to do?

(Note: I found this on Facebook so whoever wrote it thank you.)

4agreements

In case hard to read it says:

1. BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD

a. Speak with integrity.

b. Say only what you mean.

c. Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others.

d. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love.

2. DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY

a. Nothing others do is because of you.

b. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream.

c. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

3. DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS

a. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want.

b. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama.

c. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST

a. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy opposed to when you are sick.

b. Under any circumstances, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

Share what you are going to commit to; I would love to hear it.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

My dream is to create a world of love and tolerance, where people make responsible choices from a place of personal power.  No one embodied, lived and died for that dream greater than the hero we honor today, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. the man with a powerful dream.

Nothing I can say will do justice to his indelible spirit and passionate purpose.  Today on Facebook and Twitter I found myself sharing countless quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. what profound wisdom and statements he spoke, the eloquence of which I can only aspire.

As you go through your busy day stop and remember what a different world this would be if it were not for men such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  And ask yourself what are you doing for others?

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

There is still so much work to be done.  I am humbled and challenged by the upward call and ask all of you to join me in seeing Dr. King’s dream fully realized in our generation.  Be the difference.  Do something, just move.

My tribute would not be complete without including the famous speech that still stirs the hearts, ignites the passions and motivates the masses to this day, “I Have a Dream Speech” this video may be lengthy but worth the view.

New Year: New You!

New Year: New You!

“Another fresh new year is here . . .

Another year to live!

To banish worry, doubt, and fear,

To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me

To live each day with zest . . .

To daily grow and try to be

My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity

Once more to right some wrongs,

To pray for peace, to plant a tree,

And sing more joyful songs!”

~ William Arthur Ward

This time of year is a chance to start fresh and make different choices.  A chance to become who you were meant to be and create the life you were born to live.  But isn’t that true of everyday.  We celebrate New Years with resolutions of change, filled with the excitement and expectation of new beginnings.  Each moment is really an opportunity to start fresh.

My sister has a great practice.  When her day is not going well and she needs to just start over she will reset her day by taking a shower and pretending this is the beginning of her day.

So just remember if you are already breaking your resolutions and feeling discouraged.  Each moment is a fresh start.  It is a chance to be a new you.  May this be the year you live on purpose and with purpose, drinking from the cup of excellence and basking in your magnificence!

So Happy New Year and Happy New You!

My Challenge: Reset as many times as you have too, each breath is a new opportunity.

NO EXCUSE ZONE!

NO EXCUSE ZONE!

The-problems-of-the-cynics-JFK

If you want something bad enough you will make it happen if not you will make an excuse.  What excuses are you making for not having the fabulous life of your dreams?  What is holding you back?  Money? Fear? Time? Age? Afraid of Failing? No Talent or Skill? Place Excuse ____  Here?

History is replete with countless people who made their fortune or accomplished greatness by shear determination and persistence.

Oprah was demoted for not being fit for television, Einstein did not speak till he was 4 and his teachers said he would never amount to much, Walt Disney was fired from his news paper for “lacking original ideas” and for having “no imagination”, Michael Jordan went home and cried when he was kicked off the high school basketball team, Louise Hay was in her mid forties before she even got started and she didn’t even launch Hay House on a small scale untill her 50’s, Abraham Lincoln was committed for depression and lost countless elections before becoming President of the United States.

The list of comeback stories, stories of people who had nothing and made it to the top is too exhausting and exhaustive to mention.  If you’ve never failed then you’ve never tried anything new.  You have to persist and persevere to have your dream.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”

~ Calvin Coolidge

The indelible human spirit is amazing.  We challenge ourselves to do things often by choice, sometimes for survival but when we achieve the unachievable the experience is unbelievable.  Without the fear of falling we will never experience the thrill of soaring.  Sometimes you have to have a breakdown before you can have a breakthrough.

We have to learn to push past the fear and the victory on the other side is so sweet it is worth every ounce of pain if we will just hang on one more second.  We give in and give up too easily when are so close.

No excuses

I recently watched the movie Unbroken.  What an inspiring example of what the human spirit is capable of when they believe they can endure.  His brother told him “if you can take it you can make it” and those words kept him going.   There were so many times when he could have given up but he remembered those words and he held on.

“Many of life’s failures did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

~ Thomas Edison

“Triumph often is nearest when defeat seems inescapable.”

~ B.C. Forbes

We are capable of incredible things.  Everything that is now a reality was once a dream.  The airplane, the car, the computer, clothing, in door plumbing, everything we have and use and everything we are was once a dream.

“Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall unveil. The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.”

~ James Allen

If your dream is important to you you will find a way, if not, you will find an excuse.  Someone else in worse circumstances than you has made it happen.  Their are people who sacrifice and require more of themselves.

Maybe it will take 10 years or 20 years but when you get there you will have your dream.  The time will pass whether you go for it or not.  So what is it going to be?

Let your dreams be bigger than your fears and your actions louder than your words.  Go for it.  And don’t stop till you get there.

Remember those people at the top of the mountain didn’t fall there!

“There is no place where success comes before work except in the dictionary.”

~ Donald M. Kimball

My Challenge:  Think about something you have written off as impossible and start reconsidering.  Write a list of what it will take to make it happen.  Even if it will take a thousand steps and 20 years.  A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.  Break it down into steps and make a check list and do something each day towards your goal.

Are You Asleep At the Wheel?

Are You Asleep At the Wheel?

awaken
“Every human has four endowments- self-awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom… The power to choose, to respond, to change.”

~ Stephen R. Covey

Today I was thinking about growing up. I just turned 50 and it seems like it is time I start acting like a “grown up”. I have found that I have fallen into my old patterns of behavior, back into the abyss of dysfunction. I woke up and realized I was stuck because I was at such a low vibration. I was riddled with guilt, shame and embarrassment. On the David Hawkins’ scale of vibrations that is a low as you can vibrate.

How could I be here again? I wrote the book on living an empowered, enlightened and loving life. I know better. I was living my highest life. I was actually there; I am still that woman who wrote that book. Everything I wrote was truth when I wrote it. I just need to get back to living it. I’ve proven I am capable of it, it is the true me. I just need to let go of the ego that was pulling me down. As Wayne Dyer says, “the ego stands for Edging God Out”. All the junk life has thrown at me that I let take me off my spiritual path. I can choose to start to live differently today. I am not defined by my past even if my past was yesterday. Each day is a clean slate. “Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of your past or a pioneer of the future.” ~ Deepak Chopra

The last year I have been so sick I just shut down. I have been living unconsciously. I choose to live a conscious, present and aware life. As Jim Rohn says, “Change happens instantaneously, it is the decision to change that takes forever.” The great thing is today is a new day. I choose to change. Done.

I got up tapped on my feelings and let go of all the negative energy and started to re-frame. First of all I am letting go of this “grown up” thing. I am instead choosing to be the empowered woman that I am, living my authentic life fully conscious, and making aware deliberate choices from my highest self that create my best life. I am raising my vibration.

I did two guided meditations that I love and had a couple of epiphanies. First, I have been dealing with conflicts with two people in my life. I realized that the things that I have hated in them are just reflections of the parts of me that need to change the most.

The Universe will put people in our lives to mirror the things in ourselves we need to learn. Often they are magnified versions so we can see how ugly that quality is, and then if we look within and recognize how we too possess that quality and become aware, convicted and then we can change. We will keep attracting the same people to ourselves until we get it. Learn the lesson and you will attract different people.

I started to see a list of things that I was judging and complaining about that were there looking right back at me in the mirror (including judging and complaining). I decided it was time to take the plank out of my own eye and heal myself.

Second, I realized that I already have everything I need to accomplish what I want to do. I just need to take conscious action one step at a time. I need to stay connected to God because without being plugged into the source of all power I am powerless and with him there is nothing that I cannot do. I need to stay awake.

My Challenge:
Look at the people in your life who bug you, what about them bothers you. Ask yourself and others the hard questions, how is that in you? How are they mirroring back what you need to change? Then make a decision and change.

Attitude is Everything!

I have been MIA for what feels like forever.  This has been a rough year.  Since January I have been in the Hospital 8 times and had 4 surgeries.  I have not blogged and feel real disconnected from the world.  Too much time alone.

Well today is day one of the Ultimate Blog Challenge and what better time to reconnect.  I have to admit I have been feeling sad and lonely.  I miss being part of the world of service.  So this is part of my new attitude I am going to reconnect with myself and all of those people out there who believe this world can be a more loving place.  I hope you find this video inspiring.  It gave me a boost.

I hope today you take these lessons and run with them.

Lots of love!
